Tramway Museum

The Tramway Museum of Amsterdam revives the past with a unique collection of historic trams. Restoring the trams to complete working order is a joy to see. And you can even ride in them, so really feel the history. You can also look in the depot to see ongoing restoration work on several historic trams. It is a nod to Amsterdam that many major European cities have created or resurrected their own tram networks in recent times. And why not? It’s the perfect urban transport system. It’s fast, efficient, and so much nicer than being underground in tunnels. Fans of trams and people who are nostalgic for the past will love The Electric Tramway Museum. It resides quietly near the South end of Vondel Park. It is a welcome and fun distraction for all the family.  You can see a wide selection of historical trams and see what the vehicles used to be like, compared to the modern ones we all know today. The cherry on the cake is the chance to take a tram ride from the Haarlemmermeer station to Amstelveen and back. It’s heaven for transport fans and good old-fashioned family fun for everyone! See the official Tramway Museum site for more information and timing. For more ideas of things to do in Amsterdam, see our handy events overview.
