Burgers and Dogs Cruise
We love getting out on the water and doing a tour of the Amsterdam canals. It is always a joyful moment. It is the very best way to see this beautiful city. You can marvel at the wonderful canal side houses and buildings. You can learn about the amazing history of how it was all created. Or, simply just enjoy floating around the water as it is so good looking. It just is !
There are so many options for boating around the canals. It is so popular with locals and tourists alike. Of course, if you have your own boat you are pretty much free to go when you want. You can rent boats or do canal tours. I have tried them all pretty much as I have lots of visitors all year long as do many expats and internationals that live in Amsterdam. Recently, I heard about a different option and I wanted to try it so I booked up and went. I invited the lovely Darla Duggen from Expats Utrecht to join me as we were visiting the Roef Festival that evening in Amsterdam. (ROEF Festival video here)
The Burgers and Dogs boat leaves at 18.30 on Fridays and Saturdays across the road from The Heineken Experience. The first thing you notice is that there are less people on this cruise than the general cruise. Maybe they did not know it was available. Maybe they did not want to pay the difference which is about 20 Euros. I just wanted to try the experience. I have seen people eating on boat tours before and I always thought it was a great idea. On this tour you have a chef and a drinks waiter.
As soon as the boat departs, you are given 2 things: some earphones for listening to the guided tour in 21 languages and a drink of your choice. Then soon after the burgers arrive. You get to add your own trimmings like onions, crispy bits, spicy peppers etc.
The waiter brings more drinks….Later you get to compose your own hot dog too. All washed down with more beer and wine. It’s a fun and tasty experience.
All in all we had a great time and it was the perfect way to start the evening. You would probably spend more eating out any how once you factor in the drinks, so it is a viable choice and as experiences go….a fun one !
